Shram: A Commitment
to Focused Effort and Meaningful Change
Shram is derived from a
Sanskrit word which means focused effort. Deep within, we believe that
the only way to achieve or realize our goals is through unstinting
effort. Our tagline Udeymen hi Sidyanti is taken from a Sanskrit shloka.
This verse
encapsulates the fundamental truth that success comes through effort, not mere
wishes. one must actively pursue their
objectives rather than wait for fortune to intervene.
A decade ago, Shram
was founded as a self-help group by a small collective of doctors and
professionals from diverse fields. What began as a humble initiative to address
the healthcare needs of the economically disadvantaged soon grew into a broader
movement.
Recognizing that good health is inseparable from a clean and sustainable environment, we expanded our efforts to environmental conservation. We launched campaigns advocating for a cleaner, greener, and pollution-free world. Our work then extended to social reform, tackling emerging issues such as E-cigarettes and alcohol abuse. Today, Shram leads initiatives like anti-tobacco awareness programs, campaigns against spurious liquor, efforts to reduce single-use plastics, and financial literacy programs for family of martyrs.
At this juncture, we firmly believe that lasting and impactful change can only be achieved by working alongside the government, helping shape sound policies for the well-being of citizens. To this end, we proactively engage with government representatives, persistently advocating for necessary reforms through formal correspondence.
More than just an organization, Shram serves as a platform for volunteers from all walks of life to contribute to meaningful causes, including education and environmental conservation. As we continue to grow, so does our collective learning, reinforcing our shared commitment to building a healthier, more equitable, and sustainable future for all.
Dr. Mukul Bajpai, an ex-officer of the Army Medical Corps and a proud alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (Pune), devoted 25 years of his life to serving the Indian Armed Forces. Yet, his service to the nation did not end with his military tenure. Guided by a clear vision of a healthier, cleaner, and safer India, he founded SHRAM, an umbrella NGO spearheading impactful campaigns such as Prayas (Anti-Tobacco), Vasundhra (Anti Single-Use Plastic), Smriti (Support to Families of Martyrs), Raksha (Anti-Spurious Liquor), Bhoomi (Afforestation & Groundwater Preservation), and Rakt-Bandhan (Blood Donation Awareness).
Dr. Mukul Bajpai’s journey from a dedicated Army officer to the
visionary founder of SHRAM stands as a testament to his deep-rooted patriotism,
relentless dedication, and unyielding commitment to building a healthier and
more sustainable India.
A decade ago, we embarked on a noble journey by founding Shram, a self-help group initiated by a dedicated collective of doctors and professionals from diverse fields. With humility and compassion at our core, we began by addressing the health concerns of the economically weaker sections of society and extending care to the less privileged.
As our mission evolved, we recognized that good health cannot thrive in isolation—it is intrinsically linked to a clean and pollution-free environment. This realization propelled us to broaden our efforts, launching campaigns for a greener, healthier world. We actively championed initiatives to combat environmental degradation and took a firm stand against social evils such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
Today, Shram continues to expand its horizon, spearheading impactful campaigns such as anti-tobacco awareness programs, drives against spurious liquor, and movements against single-use plastics. Additionally, we are deeply committed to empowering communities through initiatives like financial literacy programs for women, fostering both economic independence and societal well-being.
At this crucial juncture, we firmly believe that lasting and meaningful change can only be achieved through collaboration with the government. Sustainable progress hinges on sound policymaking, and to this end, we actively engage with policymakers by providing well researched recommendations, conducting workshops, and organizing training camps for representatives of the Government of India. Through relentless advocacy and constructive dialogue, Shram remains steadfast in its mission to shape policies that safeguard the health and well-being of our citizens.
